Edgar Sewter Mission Statement

Edgar Sewter School believes that all children should have the opportunity to:

  • Achieve their full potential in PE and school sport
  • Receive high quality PE and sports teaching
  • Engage in exciting and challenging but safe activities that encourage active healthy lifestyles.

Edgar Sewter has long had the reputation of being a Primary School with an excellent PE programme.  The facilities for a primary school are also excellent. We have a large school hall with a huge choice of games and gymnastics apparatus, a separate dining hall which we are hoping to develop into a dance/drama studio, two outside playgrounds; one in a cage and the other with mini netball courts and basketball hoops, a large field with markings which are pertinent for winter and summer sports (there is also a climbing frame and a gym trail) and a covered swimming pool with a heat exchanger. At playtimes the children have use of a variety of games and sports equipment to further practise their skills and games awareness.

Each class has 2 hours of PE lessons and there is the opportunity to be involved in a variety of extra hours of school sport; we try to offer a range to suit all skills and tastes (see list).

The programme of study in lesson time includes dance, gymnastics, invasion games, net/wall games, striking and fielding games, swimming, athletics and outdoor adventurous activities.
